It's easy to become used to our surroundings. Our neighborhoods provide a kind of psychological blueprint for how we think a city or a town or a suburb should look and we very rarely find anything novel or new as we go through our daily lives.
The following photographs capture street art that challenges our conventions, that startle us into looking, that inspire us to see things in a fresh light. The things that we take for granted — a freeway overpass, a flat wall, a stretch of roadway — can, in the hands of an artist, take on entirely new dimensions and open our eyes to possibilities.
We present some of our favorite examples here, free of further commentary.
