Fast-food joints get a lot of heat, and rightfully so. There's definitely some heads turned the other way in a kitchen or two when it comes to sanitation, food prep and general level of edibility.
Sometimes though, it feels like the powers that be at McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell and beyond are just messing with customers' heads. Below are a list of some of the more ridiculous fast-food concoctions. Browse at your own risk.
1. Cheeseburger Pizza Crust, Pizza Hut
2. Tofu Shinjo McNuggets, McDonald's Japan
Minced whitefish, tofu, edamame, soy beans and carrots, all deep-fried to look like a normal chicken nugget. "All natural!"
3. Paneer Zinger, KFC India
A double-layered patty of Paneer (cheese) topped with a spicy creamy sauce and lettuce on a soft bun. Sure?
4. Flying Fish Roe Salmon Cream Cheese Crust, Pizza Hut Hong Kong
It's all in the name. Literally, every ingredient is in there.
5. McLobster, McDonald's Canada
There's nothing wrong with lobster rolls, but a lobster roll from McDonald's? Hmm.
6. Pork and Seaweed Donut, Dunkin' Donuts China
This is apparently a common flavor for breads in China. Maybe we shouldn't judge. But still.
7. McMolletes, McDonald's
The Mexican version of the McMuffin. Refried beans, cheese and pico de gallo. Why not just make it a tostada or taco?
8. Apple Fries, Burger King Netherlands
So...they're apple wedges?
9. Red Samurai Burger, Burger King Japan
Passionately reported on by us before, this burger is, as it is easy to see for non-colorblind people, quite red. The red buns and red cheese are both colored with tomato powder, and both are drenched in a red hot sauce made from miso and hot peppers. Why? Why not.
10. The Double Down, KFC
A creation that needs no introduction, the Double Down is the ultimate "f*ck it" food: two fried chicken patties with bacon, cheese and sauce in between. Bravo.
