Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a relatively famous movie, less for its actual merits and more because the making of it spawned one of Hollywood's biggest power couples. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie met on the set of the 2005 film and the rest, as they like to say, is history. Now it looks like their fake hostile marriage setup has spawned potential for some real-life drama: Mr. & Mrs. Smith will become a reality series.
The original film stars Pitt and Jolie as a married couple going through issues and therapy like many others do, but the kicker, as it is a movie starring two attractive actors, is that the two are actually sexy assassins who both hide their true profession from their spouse. After they're both assigned to kill the same person, they run into each other and are then ordered to kill one another. Violence, passion and violent passion ensue.
The new reality show's producers offered that it "will feature married couples that compete in a high-octane, high-stakes game," which in some respects sounds like the Pitt-Jolie film, but could also describe a chess game, depending on your personal definition of "high-octane," "high-stakes" and "chess."
Unscripted production company 3 Ball Entertainment is teaming up with New Regency to develop and produce this game show that octogenarians probably won't like as much as Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. No word on timing and no details beyond the "high-octane, high-stakes" business, but it's likely a safe bet that this will at least be marginally more interesting than therapy for participating couples.
